What is Healing Touch?

How Does it Differ from Casually Touching Someone?

Einstein’s equation E=mc2 states that energy and matter are the same. Matter is energy vibrating at a slower speed. We appear to be solid. However, we are actually vibrating energy. Everything is vibrating energy. The food we eat, our furniture, the walls of our homes, the ground we walk on are all vibrating energy.

We are constantly interacting with people energetically. Have you ever had the experience of feeling uncomfortable, because someone walked up to you and stood too close to you? You might want to try an experiment with some friends. Simply walk up to someone and pay attention to how you feel as you get closer to them. Most of the time, there is a point where it feels uncomfortable to get any closer. That distance varies from culture to culture. Our energy fields extend beyond our bodies; you are actually in someone’s energy field when you are doing this experiment.

Healing Touch is a relaxing, nurturing, energy therapy. According to the National Institute of Health, Healing Touch (HT) is a biofield therapy. Did you ever notice when you were ill or feeling stressed that you felt “out of sorts”? Could you also describe that as being out of balance? Whenever there is an illness, an injury or a person feels stressed, the person’s energy field is indeed out of balance. The goal of Healing Touch is to restore harmony and balance in the client’s energy system. This facilitates the self-healing process and can also help us to stay healthy.

HT is done by lightly touching the person or moving the hands in the energy field that surrounds them. This facilitates holistic healing on physical, emotional, mental and spiritual levels. HT is used to reduce pain, promote relaxation and enhance the receiver’s natural, innate ability to self-heal. The HT practitioner is actually facilitating the healing by balancing the person’s energy field. Most people find it very relaxing to give and receive.

So how does Healing Touch differ from casually touching someone?
A person giving HT works from a centered heart, with unconditional love, and sets the intention to work for the receiver’s highest and greatest good. It is important to let go of any attachment to the outcome for the healing. From our limited perspective, we do not know what the best outcome is for someone. It is also important to be nonjudgmental. We do not know what has transpired in someone’s life, so it is best not to judge them or anyone else.

It is thought that everyone has the ability to assist another to heal. In a Healing Touch class, you will learn how to do simple techniques that are amazing to give, as well as receive. For more information about Healing Touch and classes, you can visit www.HealingBeyondBorders.org. A recently published book, Healing Touch, Enhancing Life through Energy Therapy goes into more depth explaining HT and the concepts of energy work. It is an excellent book and is available on the website.

We each have the ability to either raise or lower the vibrational frequency of everyone else in the world. How do you feel when someone yells at you? How do you feel when someone gives you a genuine heart-felt smile? Does that feel better? What effect did Mother Theresa have on the world? It is important in our own lives to think about how we are affecting others. What kind of energy do we bring to our work environment? How are we with our families when we return from a stressful day at work? I encourage you to be aware of how you manage your own energy. Just by each of us being more mindful of how we manage our energy and trying to be a kinder and gentler presence, we can change the world!
