The primary goal in every life is that of happiness and fulfillment. We seek this in food, relationships, status, money, success, material possessions, sex, security and religion. Innumerable times, people achieve and obtain all these “Things”, yet still hunger for something more. Most often, they feel even more dissatisfied and empty after obtaining these goals than they did prior to achieving them. It is almost a helpless feeling of being a bottomless pit, which can never be satisfied or filled. Prior to reaching the top, they still had what they at least believed to be “the pursuit of happiness” but once reached, they have even lost the aim of their pursuit, happiness and self-fulfillment. This insatiable hunger for something more can only be satisfied through self-realization or awakening. Within you right now, at this very moment, is the infinite peace of the presence of God that defies all understanding. When this hidden aspect of yourself is revealed, you will be complete and fulfilled at last. In ancient traditions, this is known as the pearl of great price, which can only be found within.
This priceless pearl is also known as the Grace of God, The Holy Spirit, The Sweetest Nectar, Enlightenment, The Water of Life and the Peace that defies understanding. Can you imagine having all of your worries, doubts, fears, insecurities, anger, frustration, depression, grief, wants, ungratefulness, anxiety and resistance to WHAT IS, transformed into their opposites? How would you like to feel comfortable, confident, content, peaceful, unconditionally loved, happy, celebratory, fulfilled, thankful and accepting of everything around you? This is truly experiencing the divine being within. It is the transformation and metamorphosis of the “i” of your ego or identity self into the I of the universal consciousness. This is analogous to the caterpillar transforming into the butterfly, which happens naturally as this radical yet beautiful change is fundamentally inherent to being a caterpillar. This same dramatic transcendence opportunity is available to us as well. The only obstacle is that we must learn to get out of our own way.
Unlike the caterpillar, which doesn’t even have a goal of becoming a butterfly, we over complicate things by thinking of ways to get there, or focusing on how much better our life will be when we get there, etc. Instead, we need to become grounded in the present moment and accept who we are at this exact moment, without additional thinking. Who you are is not in your thoughts, so you cannot transcend unless you simply BE. The caterpillar does not think about becoming a butterfly nor does the butterfly think about how much better it is to be a butterfly. It does not even need to know it is a caterpillar to BE a caterpillar and the same can also be said for the butterfly. We are the ones who assign meaning or significance to all things. In fact, the only meaning anything has is either the meaning you gave it, or the meaning someone else gave it, which you have accepted as truth.
Can this transformation be achieved? Regardless if you can or cannot, we know for certain that your desire to answer: “There must be something more out of life” need will not be satisfied by obtaining more wealth, possessions, social status, career, security and so on. It is the inner being within you who has the appetite for meaning out of life, who also knows that it is not found by spending life accumulating superficial stuff like a habitual robot stuck on autopilot. This inner being also knows that self-realization is not even possible without your ego or false you, so it waits patiently for you each and every day to change your unsatisfying habits and routines hoping that some day, you will seek the something more within.
The universe or God is literally EVERYTHING and you cannot be separate from it. You are in the universe just the same as the universe is within you. Jesus said it as: “understand the Father is in me and I am in the Father” (John 10:38, & 14:11) and “ I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may be brought to perfection as one” (John 17:22).“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”: John 1:1. The term universe literally means one (uni) word (verse) or phrase. Feeling separate from everything instead of being one with ALL is the source and root cause of your lack of fulfillment, insecurity and suffering. You are a living expression of the universe itself. You are trying to live life, but LIFE is also living you and wants to be known by you. Many mysteries and secrets will be revealed in this inner journey but ultimately, you must believe that your life is worth observing and investigating from within, with full conviction and passion. “Know Thy Self” is a requirement of all mystery schools. Jesus said: “Love one another as I love you” (John 15:12) and to “Love thy neighbor as yourself” (Matthew 22:39). However, to fulfill this divine commandment requires that you must know who you are first!
