VegMichigan Summer Festival is Aug. 7 in Livonia
ROYAL OAK, Mich., July 11, 2016 – What’s better in summer than grilled burgers, frosty ice cream, fruity or creamy shakes and other tasty treats? A growing number of people might say those same items free of animal products, and that’s exactly what will be served up at the first VegMichigan Summer Festival taking place Sunday, Aug. 7 at Madonna University in Livonia.
The free-admission event takes place from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. and features a tempting selection of plant-based foods along with live music, exhibitors, carnival games and fun for the whole family. Grilled burgers, smoothies, shakes, wraps, dairy-free cheeses, sweets and more will be offered by Chive Kitchen, Shimmy Shack food truck, El Cardenal Vegan Tamales, Tumerican Indian Restaurant, Crushed Healthy Smoothies and other vendors, along with the wildly popular new non-dairy flavors of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream. All food and merchandise will be vegan, meaning free of animal products and not tested on animals.
“We’re delighted to host a free family event with delicious vegan foods that everyone will love,” says event chair and VegMichigan board member Tom Progar.
Live music by John Rush and Once United will entertain guests, who will also be able to shop cruelty-free and earth-friendly vendors and enjoy family activities like carnival games, face painting and henna tattoos.
“Whether you’re vegan, omnivore or anywhere in between, we invite everyone to come out for a day of classic summer fun and great food,” adds Progar.
Best known for hosting the annual VegFest each spring, VegMichigan is a nonprofit organization promoting awareness of the health, environmental and ethical benefits of a plant-based diet.
