Learning new skills can be a lot of fun, but it also can sometimes be very frustrating. Its how you deal with those frustrating times, that can make or break your success in your creative goals.

The first thing to consider is hindsight is 20/20 so when beginning a new artistic discipline, it’s a good idea to do some pre-research so you can have a good idea ahead of time of what is needed to accomplish your new endeavor.

Weigh the pros and the cons of the new skill; you wish to learn. Take into consideration all the factors that are necessary for success such as aptitude, difficulty level, resources and time.

Another important step in mastering your new skill is knowing the perimeters of your practice. What I mean by this is know what your medium can do and not do, this will save you hours if not months of your time. Once you know the strengths and limits of your chosen medium you then now know what you can be capable of with learning this new skill.

Start with mastering the basics before moving on to more difficult techniques.

To avoid frustration, you may want to expand your education with trying more advanced artistry once you feel comfortable with your chosen medium. You also then can try to push your crafts limits with experimentation.

It also helps to have helpful instruction by people who know the discipline you are learning. Such Instruction can come in the form of books, videos and you can even take classes.

Remember to set time aside to practice and above all be patient and kind to yourself. It takes time to learn something new but with the right mindset and preplanning and whole lotta love you’ll be creating with the best of them!

Happy crafting
