Join Paula Burke as she shares with you the traditions & rituals used to signal the turning of the seasons and the point in the calendar between the Equinoxes. In this class she will reveal all she understands about Lammas, the season of first fruits harvest, gratitude, and generous sacrifice. A time to recognize the fruits of our labors and give thanks for all that has manifested.
This Pagan/early Christian holiday, traditionally observed on August 1, marked the beginning of the harvest, and especially celebrated the first wheat crop, or that of corn. On Lammas Day, loaves of bread were baked from the first-ripened grain and brought to the churches to be consecrated. To the Celts, this was Lughnasaid (LOON-a-sah), the feast of the wedding of the Sun god and the Earth goddess, and also a harvest festival.
