Manifesting with Vision Boards

As each new year dawns, we are often filled with inspiration around all that is possible. We are able to imagine, dream, and envision all the experiences we desire and feel the motivation of a fresh slate, a new start, and maybe even new versions of ourselves!

Yet even amidst all the inspiration, many of us still have that quiet voice of doubt that sneakily reminds us of how we have fallen short in previous years. We start strong but wane with time or never quite get around to starting. I know I have made resolutions to keep my resolutions, and for many years the mantra has been, “this year is going to be different!”

What if there was something that could help us stay the course? Well, there is! Vision Boards! What are those? Simply put, a vision board is a poster or sign (some visual form) that you create using pictures, images, and words to represent your vision of the experiences you desire to create in your life.

I have done many Vision Boards in my life, and for the past several years, my husband and I have done one together. I can honestly report that every vision board I have done has been uncannily effective, even in producing some unexpected results which, in hindsight, did match up to what was on the vision board. I have also gone through periods of not doing a vision board, and sure enough, reflecting on those times, I can see the impact. Those were periods of little progress and feelings of lack of clarity and direction.

In fact, following one of these periods, nearly five years ago, I experienced one of the darkest times in my life. Every aspect of my life needed drastic change. And I was unclear about what I wanted or how to improve things. A friend suggested doing a vision board, and I decided to do a small one that was focused on ‘getting me through’ the most urgent needs. I decided I needed a new job and some key changes in my relationship. All this was precipitating other big changes that I needed, but I had decided I would deal with those after these first two things were ‘fixed .’And, though it was not a robust effort in envisioning or planning, things did indeed turn completely around in just a few short months.

I should note that I did have a clear vision about the job change and the relationship ‘fixes’ as I created my board. Or at least I thought I did, but in the end, I did not get any of the outcomes I had imagined. I did indeed end up with a new job, but it was not one of the ones that were on my radar. And it was not even something I knew existed or was possible as I did my board. Likewise, I did indeed end up with changes in my relationship, but they weren’t what I imagined. Incredibly, both wound up being better than I had envisioned, through completely different paths than I could foresee. In fact, the job change solved a few additional issues that I hadn’t even put on my vision board. That is the power of a vision board; it helps you co-create your experiences and balance your action with surrendering to what the universe is bringing your way.

There are some important elements in creating and using a vision board. Your vision is important, of course, but it needs to allow some room for the possibilities you cannot yet see.

It is also important to identify your intentions and write your affirmations to support bringing the vision into experience, or you just might create some unanticipated results. Even the visuals you choose and how you design and lay out your board can impact your results. And, finally, keeping the board where you’ll see it and work with it daily is important to manifesting your vision too.

If you’d like to discover your manifesting magic to bring your vision for 2023 into being, consider attending my upcoming class: “Demystifying Vision Boards: Manifest Your 2023,” at Enlightened Soul Center and Shop. The class is on three consecutive Mondays, beginning on January 23rd at 6:30 pm. In the first session, we will review vision boards, manifesting, envisioning, intentions, and affirmations. Class 2 will be about troubleshooting, design options and considerations, and beginning to create your board. Class 3 will finish up the board, hold an activation ceremony and cover how to use the board going forward.
