Better Things to Come if We Let Them

Most human beings want to be heard, valued, respected, and treated kindly. People also want to do the things they want to do and have the things they want to have. More importantly, most of us just want to be happy. Unfortunately, life doesn’t always do what we want, and people don’t always treat us the way we want and deserve to be treated. But that doesn’t mean we should just give up. That doesn’t mean that the future will always be a repeat of past disappointments, failures, unfairness, and hurts. It doesn’t mean there is no hope for something better. There is always hope.

If we, however, continue to lug around our coulda, shoulda, woulda, and what-ifs and wear our prior traumas and disappointments like a coat during winter, we will never see the potential for something better. We may even stop ourselves from trying something or letting someone into our life that could be good for us. People do this all the time because of fear or simply an expectation of nothing ever changing. Sadly, we can miss out on an opportunity to actually have the life we want and be treated the way we want and deserve to be treated, all because we are afraid of being disappointed again. That’s not a good plan.

It’s time to shed what’s happened before and begin anew. It’s time to view ourselves as the beautiful, worthy, and totally flawed human beings we are and celebrate our gift of life. It is time to pack on the hope, faith, trust, and confidence and greet each new day with anticipation of positive change, healing, and happiness.

Human beings owe it to each other to help each other and even root each other on.  After all, we are all in this together. Together, we can soar, and together, we can drown. So, let us put the past behind us. Let’s make peace with ourselves and each other. Let’s strive to listen a little more, think a little longer before we say something, and, more importantly, put out into the world what we want to get back. Let us all be hopeful and keep the faith for better things to come for ourselves and the world. And let this be the start of a new and good chapter for everyone.
