New Michigan Farm Season Brings Change, Goodness and Well-being!

My, what a mild spring we are having. Everything is all at once looking so green and alive! Pear trees, cherry trees, magnolia’s and forsythia are so vibrantly beautiful overhead, while tulips, lilies, sweet woodruff and more fill our landscapes as they wriggle up from the ground like a newly born litter of snuggling pups squinting up to the sun.

On my own home front large changes are also taking place, for having recently suffered a heart attack. I am and will be fine…even better, because at a little slower pace, allowing more time to consciously breathe – I am gratefully aware that each moment possesses its own fire! A wonderful yogic mantra “so hum” (“I am that”) graciously welcomes me each day to be freely present in guiding stillness. I strive to meditate daily. Like the growing warmth of our spring sun, meditating all at once restores, renews and rejuvenates.

I look forward to building my strength! As manager of the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market, I can tell you that I will be pleasantly busy preparing for our 24th year of community service, opening on Saturday May 20th. Every year the opening of the market comes with grand celebration as we welcome the return of “Saturday life in a Michigan small town…”.

Stroll amongst colorful flower vendors or forage for micro greens and new sprouts. Choose budding heirloom vegetable plants, gourmet specialty foods, and hand crafted artisan works for your home and garden. As you weave your way through the market, you will find live music, children’s activities, interactive cooking demonstrations and more including lots of smiles, “good mornings” and a strong presence of community.

I do hope you can make plans to join us at the corner of Grand River and Grove Street in downtown Farmington, finding yourself part of the weekly revelry that is yours to experience and enjoy. Each week brings something new to delight in, but it’s the special feeling that you have inside of you when you find that “sense of place” that I know will keep you coming back again and again. American philosopher Joseph Campbell says it best “…it is here it is here it is here…”
