Get Real!

I began my spiritual journey after the death of my step-daughter, Susan. Since then, my view of life and my understanding of reality have expanded far beyond that which I held for the majority of my life. I used to hope this life wasn’t all there is. I used to believe there was more than meets the eye and that all we see is organized and coordinated by a loving Creator. The thing is, I don’t believe that anymore. I KNOW it’s true. Belief leaves room for doubt; knowing comes from personal experience.

That personal experience has come from giving somewhere around 700 private readings as a medium, sharing evidential details from those who have passed with their loved ones who sit across from me. That personal experience has also come from sharing spiritual insights from another dimension in hundreds of group sessions. That unshakeable confidence that this life is not all there is comes from the personal experience of other worlds in my daily meditation.

Those experiences have changed me irreversibly, and that’s all right with me. I have no desire to go back to the emotional roller coaster ride I used to experience. I’ll take balance over turmoil any day. Those experiences have helped me to see the essence of spirit in everyone I meet, and I’ll take love over fear and judgment as well.

These changes haven’t been without adjustment. The other day I set the newspaper aside after reading a story steeped in negativity. I turned to my husband and admitted that it’s not easy walking in two worlds at once. When you regularly experience realms where love is felt and expressed as the principle emotion, it’s sometimes a challenge to soldier on in this one.

It’s easy to get dragged down by violence on TV, in movies, and in the news. It’s easy to get discouraged with folks who haven’t yet realized we are all spirit-beings here and now. So I’ve made a deliberate choice to see only goodness. Does that make me a Pollyanna? Yes, it does. Call me naïve, but I like feeling happy and loving no matter what.

A good friend recently shared similar loving views of, “Why can’t we all just get along?” with her cousin. The guy wrote back to my fellow Pollyanna and told her to, “Get real.” To him, reality is a harsh, dog-eat-dog world where it’s every man for himself.
The question is: What is real? As I continue to experience first-hand, there’s more than one reality.
Perception is reality. If you perceive this world as dangerous, evil, and filled with hate, then that will be your reality. If you focus on the positive, that will be your experience.

Nobody ever said this life is easy. It’s hard to stay positive and balanced when folks around you aren’t. It’s hard to see the bright side when journalists sell newspapers by ignoring good news, politicians win votes by slinging mud, and Hollywood continues to blow things up just for fun. Being peaceful and loving is a choice in this realm of duality. When you make the choice to focus your perception on being the expression of love, your whole reality shifts.
So go ahead. Get real!
But first decide; which version of “real” will you choose?
