It’s February. What better time to do this! This is the time for love, so why not apply it to your creative journey as well?
Here’s how. Take out your art journal and make a new entry. Begin by asking yourself, “What do I love?” As you think of your various loves, write them down, create categories for different ideas.
For example, to start, some of your headings could be people, places, things. From there, focus on the aspects that you love in those subjects. List them in your journal. Once you get your creative juices flowing, then start being more inventive with your categories. For example, those headings could include: favorite colors, books, movies, music and so on. This is your journal, and your loves. Write down any category that you feel fits; what you adore.
Once you have written all your lists down, read them over. Which of these subjects do you feel the most drawn to? Now, highlight or circle the ones you like the best. Once you’ve done this, take those particular subjects and treat them as new headers.
Then ask yourself, “What do I love about these special interests?” Once you have those answers, write those down under their topic. Then repeat the above step, read over those answers, and highlight/circle the ones you feel the most drawn to.
Your next step is to go through the ones you’ve highlighted. Of these choices, which are you the most drawn to? Keep the process going until you narrow it down to just one love, for now. Don’t worry. You can always go back to the others later. Once you have the love you feel the most drawn to, now ask yourself, “How would I like to creatively express my interest of my love?” When you get your answers, start writing them down; keep using the narrowing down process that I mentioned above, until you find the one that is what you would most like to do. From this point on, all that’s left to do is to express your creativity and enjoy! Have a happy, creative Valentine’s Day.
