Rochester, MI, August 25 – Sunshine, fertile soil, and willing volunteers have provided the perfect recipe for KidzKare’s Raising Rochester program. With over 120 garden beds at 22 locations, the organic community garden program is poised to harvest over 1,500 pounds of fresh produce this year to benefit the clients of the Rochester Area Neighborhood House Food Pantry!

To help celebrate the success of the program and assure a healthy start for 2016, KidzKare will host the third annual “An Edible Evening” fundraiser. The family event will be held at the newly renovated and award-winning Calf Barn at Van Hoosen Farm Museum on Wednesday, September 9th from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Sponsored by the Royal Park Hotel and the Paint Creek Cider Mill Restaurant, the event will feature dinner selections from local restaurants old and new. There will be live entertainment and storytelling. The museum will offer hayrides around the farm and old-fashioned activities in the Children’s Garden to keep the kids busy and happy.

Dr. Jay Mitchell, founder of KidzKare and Raising Rochester, states “The garden program has achieved its goals this year of increasing both the amount of fresh, local, organically grown produce being donated and providing more hands-on educational opportunities to our school children. We look forward to generating funding to support next year’s goals of expanding our program into more Rochester schools and building our first hoop-house to provide year-round production for the food pantry. There is nothing better than getting kids excited about growing, harvesting and eating vegetables! This is why it was important to include children and families in our fundraising event this year.”

Discounted tickets are available in advance for $25 for adults and $5 for children, and can be purchased at www.kidzkare.net by clicking “EDIBLE EVENING”. Sponsorship information is also available online. For further details, email info@kidzkare.net or call 248-505-3522.
