Gratitude in Simplicity

“It’s the simple things in life that are the most extraordinary.” Paulo Coelho

When we find ourselves in overwhelm, disregard, lack, or even chaos, so often we look outside to fill the gap of disconnect or unwanted emotions. We may follow the comparison trap, which can unsurprisingly lead to the insatiable want of more and more. It can be subtle or not. In this incredible time of advancement, it is hard not to want more! More is not necessarily negative or bad; however, context, awareness, and true innate responsibility are oh-so-necessary now.

How much do we really need? is the question.

Allowing our focus to shift, supports us in asking this very important question. Acknowledging the simple things in our lives, and imagining living just one day without them, cannot help but produce a well of gratitude within us. These “simple” things can be anything from clean air to breathe, seeing a beautiful sunset, hearing the laughter of a child, witnessing a welcoming smile from a stranger, to the ability to drive a car to a job that pays for your dwelling and shelters you from the snow, rain, heat…. You get the idea. Returning to this practice, again and again, can be a powerful switch. There is so much to be grateful for when we look and then see.

What is seemingly simple in your life, that upon deeper reflection is actually quite extraordinary? It can be a “simple” matter of a “switch” in perspective.

When you love what you have, you have everything you need.

Sincerely, Scarlet
