Growing Into a New Way of Being

Dear Readers,

Once again, we are entering into the season of autumn! How exciting, the season that mirrors the change we experience on the outside as well as on the inside. Everywhere we look, it is a reminder of the cycle of rebirth. The trees will soon be losing their leaves and become dormant once again. It is because of this that I want to take the time to write about not only self-change, but change that is ever present in each-and-every one of our lives. Specifically, the change we will go through in shedding the negative people out of our lives. Similar to our need to clean out the extra shoes we own in our closets, we need to take a moment and recognize the influences of people in our present life who may or may not have our best interest at heart.

For the sake of keeping things brief, I’m going to refer to this process as, “shedding”. Much like a snake who abandons its old skin, we too must sometimes grow out of relationships and situations that are toxic to our well-being. It is easy to slip into a routine of an unhealthy lifestyle. When you have negative energies within your inner circle, it becomes difficult to maintain a positive and productive mindset. It is never too early or too late to make a change. Much like a child, we all have phases or periods of time where we seem to be running endlessly towards nothing, much like that of a hamster on the wheel of life.

Therefore, I want to encourage you to remove the negative energy that might be within your auras and start fresh. Negative people are unavoidable, although we can control how we interact with them. Working to stay in your own energy and to not associate with those who bring you down are essential tools to starting anew; knowing when to limit or expand your associations within your circle. Consider yourself mentally detoxifying your spirit. Just as we need fuel in our body, we need to take care of our mind and spirit in the same manner.

Autumn is the perfect time to partake in this shedding experience, because we are able to wind down after long summer vacations, and regroup. It is this recognition of impermanence that allows us to move forward on our spiritual journey. When we acknowledge that all things in life are fleeting, we can shed those little things that weigh our spirit down.

I would like to share this poem; the author is unknown, as it seems to sum up what I believe relationships are:

SEASONS…

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you figure out which one it is,
you will know what to do for each person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON,
it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty;
to provide you with guidance and support;
to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually.
They may seem like a godsend, and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.
Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time,
this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end.
Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away.
Sometimes they act up and force you to take a stand.
What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done.
The prayer you sent up has been answered and now it is time to move on.
Some people come into your life for a SEASON,
because your turn has come to share, grow or learn.
They bring you an experience of peace or make you laugh.
They may teach you something you have never done.
They usually give you an unbelievable amount of joy.
Believe it. It is real. But only for a season.
LIFETIME relationships teach you lifetime lessons;
things you must build upon in order to have a solid emotional foundation.
Your job is to accept the lesson, love the person,
and put what you have learned to use in all other relationships and areas of your life.
It is said that love is blind but friendship is clairvoyant.

I believe this poem sums up relationships and their meanings very well, in the journey of life. We experience many people that will venture into our life for a reason, some will be a season and few will be a lifetime.
