HEALING THE SEPERATE SELF (Inner Child Healing)

Inner child healing is about gently reconnecting with that younger part of you — the scared, lonely “Separated Self” that learned to go into Alone Mode. The goal isn’t to fix or get rid of it, but to befriend it, reassure it, and help it remember the truth: You are safe, connected, loved, and protected.

Here are some practical, gentle techniques you can use yourself or share with others. They work well alongside the affirmation you love:
“I am safe. I’m connected. I’m provided for and protected. I am loved. All is well.”

  1. Meet and Talk to Your Inner Child (Reparenting)

Find a quiet, comfortable place. Close your eyes and take a few slow breaths.
Imagine yourself as a loving adult meeting your younger self (picture the age when you felt most alone or scared).
Speak kindly out loud or in your mind:
“I see you. I know you’ve been scared and felt alone. I’m here now. You don’t have to handle everything by yourself anymore.”
Let the child part tell you how it feels. Listen without judging. Then offer comfort, just like you would to a real child.

Why it helps: This directly soothes the Separated Self and builds trust.

  1. Daily Affirmation Practice with Touch

Place one hand on your heart and the other on your belly (this calms the nervous system).
Slowly repeat your affirmation several times:
“I am safe. I’m connected. I’m provided for and protected. I am loved. All is well.”
Say it as if you’re speaking directly to your little one inside.

Do this morning and night, or any time you notice a trigger. Over time it rewires the nervous system from “Alone Mode” to “Safe and Secure Mode.”

  1. Letter Writing to Your Inner Child

Write a short letter from your adult self to your younger self.
Example start: “Dear Little Penny, I know you felt alone and had to be strong all by yourself…”
Tell them what they needed to hear back then. End with your affirmation.
You can also let the inner child “write back” (with your non-dominant hand if you want to try something playful).

This is powerful for releasing old shame or self-blame.

  1. Breath + Visualization for Triggers
When yucky feelings or triggers arise:

Pause and breathe slowly (in for 4 counts, out for 6).
Place hands on your body for comfort.
Say: “I’m here with you. You are safe now.”
Visualize a warm, loving light surrounding both you and your inner child, connecting you to the bigger loving Universe.

This interrupts the survival-mode reaction and brings you back to connection.

  1. Play and Creative Expression
The inner child often feels safer through play:

Draw, color, dance, or play with clay while talking kindly to yourself.
Do activities you loved as a child (even 10–15 minutes helps).
Ask: “What would feel fun and safe for little me right now?”

Play tells the Separated Self: “It’s okay to relax. We’re not in danger.”

  1. Prayer and Spiritual Connection (Tying into Your Work)
Since you work with Unity principles, the 12 Powers, and your Lord’s Prayer revelation, you can include these:

Use Will (one of the 12 Powers) to choose connection instead of separation.
Meditate on your chakra/energy activation from the Lord’s Prayer — imagine each step bringing safety and love down through the body to the inner child.
Pray something simple: “Divine Love, please comfort the part of me that feels alone. Help me remember I am always held in the One Presence.”

Tips for Gentle Practice

Go slowly — only a few minutes at a time. The Separated Self can feel overwhelmed if you push too hard.
Be patient when old patterns show up. They’re just the inner child saying, “Are you really here for me?”
Track small wins in a journal: “Today I noticed a trigger and used my affirmation — I felt calmer faster.”
If strong emotions arise, it’s okay to pause and ground yourself (walk barefoot, hold a comforting object, or reach out to a safe person).
