Have you ever considered using hypnosis but allowed fear or anxiety to stop you? This is not unusual because there is so much misunderstanding about hypnosis. Many people do not realize that hypnosis is very safe when done by a certified hypnotherapist. You are always in control; you will never do anything that goes against your moral beliefs or values; and you cannot get “stuck” in a hypnotic state. You will never reveal any deep, dark secrets unless you want to. Most importantly, hypnosis works. It can be a very valuable tool for a wide variety of problems.
Many people do not realize that they can be in a hypnotic state without even realizing it. Have you ever heard of Highway Hypnosis? It has been defined as “an altered mental state in which a person can drive a car, truck, or other automobile great distances, responding to external events in the expected, safe and correct manner with no recollection of having consciously done so.” Likewise, have you ever been so absorbed in a good book or a movie that you were not aware of anything else going on around you? Both of these are forms of hypnosis.
Another interesting point is that we are all in a state of hypnosis for about the first seven years of our lives. The brain waves of children this age are very similar to a person in a hypnotic state. During these years we pretty much accept everything we are told or observe. We do not question or analyze what is said; we simply let it in. Unfortunately, much of this information is not healthy. It has been estimated that over 75% of the messages we receive during these early years are negative. The problem is that as adults we still carry these same messages, which are now in our subconscious mind. Because they are subconscious, we are not even aware of them. However, they are still affecting us and can be very detrimental to our lives. They can affect our health, relationships, self-esteem, job success and so much more.
These are some examples of negative messages you may have received when you were quite young. See if any of these resonate with you: “You never learn.” “What’s wrong with you?”
“You’ll never amount to anything.” You’ll never change.” “You’re too sensitive.” “I have to do everything for you.” “You’re such a disappointment.” “You’re too fat.” “You’re so lazy.” “Why do I have to tell you everything a hundred times?” “Stop being such a baby.” “Stop being so selfish.” Why can’t you be more like your brother/sister?” “Shame on you.” “You were an accident.” “Boys don’t cry.” “A woman’s place is in the home.” And for a child with all A’s and a B, “why the B?”
As you can see, children do receive a lot of negative messages when they are growing up. The problem is how this affects them as adults. Some may come to believe they can’t learn new things, or they’ll never get a good job, or that they will always be overweight, or they’re not smart enough to succeed, or that they are just not good enough.
If you are carrying some of these or other negative messages around in your subconscious mind, you can understand why you haven’t been successful in certain areas of your life. It’s not that you can’t do it; it’s that you believe you can’t do it. And as Henry Ford once said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t — you’re right.”
But how are you to change if you are not even aware of the fact that you have these messages in your subconscious mind? Hypnotherapy is an excellent method to become aware of what these negative messages are, to see where they came from, to realize that they are not true and no longer have to be believed, and then to replace them with much healthier messages. The effect on a person can be extremely dramatic.
