Do You Really Love Yourself?

There is a funny line that goes, “If you treated your friends the way you treat yourself, would you have any?” How do you treat yourself? Are you kind, loving and supportive to yourself, or do you put yourself down and beat yourself up? Are you your best friend or your worst enemy?

In the Bible it is written, “Love your neighbor as yourself.” A critical part of this line is to love yourself. In fact, if you don’t love yourself, how could you possibly love another person? Loving yourself is extremely important. In fact, Louise Hay, well known author and lecturer, wrote, “I find there is only one thing that heals every problem and that is to love yourself.” If you love yourself, you are not going to do things that hurt you, such as smoking, overeating, becoming addicted to drugs or alcohol, etc. Another interesting point is that love is something we can choose. Just as you can choose anger or hatred or sadness, you can choose love.

Since loving ourselves is so important, why don’t more of us do this? Many people, when growing up, received lots of negative messages, such as, “You’re not smart enough,” or “You’re not good enough,” or “You are not what your parents wanted,” or “You are lacking in some important area.”

Many people have been physically or sexually abused. If these things happened to you, it would be very difficult to feel good about yourself. In addition, when you repeatedly hear negative messages, you start to believe them. These messages go into the subconscious part of your brain at a very young age, and as an adult, you are probably not even aware that they are affecting you. But they are, and they can cause a multitude of problems. They can prevent you from being successful in a career or having a satisfying relationship. They can interfere with your achieving happiness. You may feel you do not deserve to be happy or successful. With these beliefs, you will not be able to love yourself, and you will not accomplish all that you might.

Thus, it is imperative that you release these unhealthy patterns of belief and replace them with much healthier and more rational thoughts. The good news is that there are ways to eliminate these negative and self-destructive thoughts. One excellent method is with the use of hypnosis. Hypnosis deals with the subconscious part of the mind and can thus help you find what negative messages or beliefs are the root cause of your problems. Once you locate the origin of these beliefs, you can then challenge them and disprove them. You are then able to let them go and replace the negative messages with much healthier beliefs.

There was a study done several years ago which compared hypnosis, psychoanalysis and behavioral therapy. The results of the study showed that of the three approaches, hypnosis worked much faster than the other two. With just a few sessions you can notice a significant improvement in your outlook, thus saving you time and money. Furthermore, hypnosis is safe and effective and is very relaxing and enjoyable. Many people expressed that they did not want to come out of the hypnotic state because they felt so good and free of worries.

Imagine how much better you would feel if you believed you were loveable and capable, that you were good enough, and entitled to pleasure. Not only would you feel better about yourself, you would be able to accomplish so much more.
