How to Rid Yourself of Negative Self-Talk to Live Happier!

Henry David Thoreau is famous for the line “the mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation.” Have you ever felt this way? If so, why are you not enjoying life to the fullest? There are, of course, many reasons why people are not as happy as they could be, but there are two very important factors contributing to a life that is not very fulfilling.

The first part of the equation involves your self-talk. Self-talk is so important that it can determine the quality of your life. Positive self-talk results in feeling good about yourself and being willing to take more risks. You will have higher self-esteem. Negative self-talk often results in your avoiding new situations and leading a very unfulfilling life. It can result in low self-esteem. Not only will the self-talk determine whether you will take a risk or not, but what you tell yourself after you take a risk is also extremely important. If you were in sales and you lost a sale, you could tell yourself, “I am not cut out for this occupation,” and that could lead you to look for another job. If, however, your self-talk was more along the lines of, “That customer was very foolish and missed a golden opportunity, too bad for him or her,” then you would not take it so personally and would be more willing to continue doing the job. Your self-talk can keep you going or can stop you cold.

If self-talk is so important, then why don’t all of us use positive self-talk? This leads to the second factor. Much of our self-talk is a result of ideas, thoughts and beliefs in our subconscious mind. We have certain beliefs in our subconscious that are affecting how we interact with other people, as well as how we feel about ourselves. If we have negative beliefs in our subconscious (also called core beliefs) we are going to be using a lot of negative self-talk. The problem is that because we are not aware of these subconscious beliefs, we don’t realize why we are acting the way we do. The subconscious remembers everything that has ever happened to us and can have a powerful effect on our actions. Unless we become aware of the patterns and beliefs in our subconscious, it is very difficult to change them. It’s as if there were an invisible entity controlling much of our behavior, and we have no idea that this is happening. These core beliefs can contribute to a lot of our unhappiness.

Even knowing how important using positive self-talk is, it is likely we will not utilize this positive self-talk until we change the negative and unhealthy patterns and beliefs that are in our subconscious mind. The good news is that we can change these core beliefs, and it does not require years of intensive psychoanalysis. Hypnosis is an excellent method to help one get in touch with the unhealthy, self-destructive subconscious beliefs that are causing so much unhappiness. With hypnosis we can easily find out what subconscious beliefs are causing our present difficulties, challenge and eliminate them, and then replace them with much healthier messages.

Let me give you one example: years ago it was not uncommon for children to get the message that “Children are to be seen and not heard.” If you were on the receiving end of this message and believed it, you would probably have a great deal of difficulty expressing yourself. As an adult, however, you may not even be aware that this message is still affecting you. You may wonder why you have so much trouble or fear talking to new people and why you are so terrified to do public speaking. With hypnosis, you can get in touch with these negative subconscious beliefs and replace them with healthier and more rational beliefs. These negative core beliefs are the reason you are having so much trouble having a happy and fulfilling life. So what are you waiting for? Do you want to be happier? The tools are now available to dramatically change your life. You are worth it.
