The World Has Us Right Where It Wants Us

Quite a few years ago, I decided to go to graduate school. MBA’s make more money and an MBA would round out my degree in Accounting. Perfect. I requested information and began the selection process. I developed a list of important criteria and created a comparison list. In time, I fine tuned my ranking system and applied a quantitative approach to ranking every characteristic I could think of. I ranked them on a scale of 1-10, weighted them and came up with a weighted average score. The school with the highest average would be the one I should choose, a time consuming and ultimately worthless process. At that time in my life, there was no awareness that another approach might exist that could take less time, less effort and be more effective.

My approach lacked insight (inner sight). But I am not alone. The concept of inner sight is lacking in our materialistic world. It is educated, marketed and parented out of us. We are transfixed by the illusion of the world’s offering. The world has us right where it wants us. “Do This” the world proclaims, “and happiness is yours. Buy this,” the world pleads, “and the pain of your illness will diminish.” Every TV commercial, advertisement, education system, parent, sibling, and employer reinforces this concept. This is a world of cause and effect. If you do well in school, you can have a nice job, big home, fancy car and you will be happy.

Disempowerment Is Exhausting

We look at the world and react to what we see in front us. Our choices are limited by our experiences and the situation we see our self in. We move rapidly through our day, analyzing, and reacting, trying with every effort to control life. We need to make sure good things continue to happen and nothing bad happens. We believe life is motion and if we are not doing, life is not happening. While all this doing sounds empowering, it is not. It is exhausting and is a life built around reaction. It is a life that is, therefore, not your own because when you are reacting to it, you have no power.

There is another choice. Instead of reacting to life you can find your inner sight and respond to life. This is true empowerment. Your actions are no longer fits of anger, fear, acting out or drama. They are conscious responses that flow with the Universe. The martial art Aikido uses this principle when the practitioner blends the motion of the opponent and redirects the force of the attack. Morihei Ueshiba, the founder Aikido once wrote: “The secret of Aikido is to harmonize with the movement of the Universe and bring ourselves into accord with the Universe itself.” The drama and pain in our lives is an indication we are out of alignment with the Universe. When we get back in alignment and go with the flow, the flow changes. Without resistance, the energy of the attack is powerless.

Inner Sight Is the Key

Gaining inner sight is your key to acknowledging the energy of the attack (your life circumstances) and redirecting it. Inner sight requires the ability to listen. And to listen we must be still. We must still the mind and quiet the body. “Be Still and Know That I AM!” The power of I AM is within all of us. It is the Living Presence. It communicates to us primarily through insight. And it communicates just what we need to know; when we need to know it. But you will not hear it unless you develop the capacity for it.

The capacity comes by accumulating Presence within your consciousness. Presence only exists in this moment since there is no other moment. If you choose to not place your awareness here, then Presence cannot be accessed. Presence is pure awareness; pure knowing. Time is irrelevant. The insight is downloaded instantly. Many of the world’s greatest thinkers, artists and scientists received their insights this way. Grand Master Choa Kok Sui, the founder of modern Pranic Healing informs us that the knowledge of Pranic Healing was given to him in minutes yet it took him decades to fully develop the process and techniques. Such is the power of inner sight. So much in so little time and with so little effort.

Michael Brown of the Presence Process says it comes to us as a feeling. “We feel as if something is true for us.” Eckert Tolle calls it “The Power of Now.” This is so important that the bible too whispers its wisdom. Jesus says in Matthew 11:15, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

How to Access Presence

How do you access the great wisdom that awaits you? Be still. Quiet the mind and body. And what is the best way to do that … I know you have heard it before … Breathe and Meditate. It is through the breath that we place our awareness in this moment. Breathwork will help us quiet the mind and diminish the underlying emotional charge that tempers our thoughts, words and deeds. Every moment you breathe consciously, you accumulate Presence. The more Presence you accumulate, the easier the insight will come. The world awaits your conscious contribution to its beauty, wholeness and love.

My final grad school analysis led me to Penn State. Tuition was lower for state residents and I was offered a teaching scholarship. I am glad I went but not for the reasons above. I am glad I went because I met my beloved wife and soul mate, Pat. She is my greatest teacher. I am delighted and honored to be her life partner. No matter which path you choose, you’ll get there anyway. It’s just a matter of whether the path is easy or hard, painful or joyful. The choice is yours.
