Change maynot always be fast or what we originally thought… but dom’t just passively wait – Start with the thought ____________. And don’t skimp on this stage; build the thought, Visualize what it looks like, and feel like!

An old friend used to say, There is Power in putting pen to paper. It is just a wish until you write it down; the action of writing it, putting it on paper – makes it a goal. A goal is something you work with…. Working it makes it happen. …

Pen to Paper is now an old expression.  If you compose on a computer, the Computer is OK, but view it daily or print it out—many still like the personal energy of writing goals on paper or in a journal. I do both. I use a computer to draft, save ideas, and return whenever I am in the mood to write. When it reaches the “finished for now stage,” I print it out to hang on the wall, so I look at it, Then hand write it in a journal… I like to think using different modalities brings In different energies. Hhmmm. Maybe I should get Lynn (Unity church music director) to help me put it to music. That would make it a truly powerful affirmation……

If you find yourself in the camp of setting lofty goals for the new year only to fall off the wagon just months (or weeks) later, rest assured that you’re not alone. Failing at New Year’s resolutions is so common that even a slew of (unofficial) dates commemorating such failures. Some sources cite “Ditch New Year’s Resolutions Day” as January 17, while others denote the second Friday in January as “Quitter’s Day.”

We can set goals and then change our minds. It may be as simple as making a different choice if we decide we want something else. Goals are amazingly adaptive. They can change and grow as we do.

“Don’t feel sorry for yourself if you have chosen the wrong road; tgurn around.” Edgar Cayce

Here are some of my favorite quotes:

A friend liked to joke about not having to write new goals for the new year…. Last year’s goals are in a brand new shape, Barely used!

“One Day, or Day One You Decide.” Paulo Coelho

“Sometimes, the answer to prayer is not that it changes life but that it changes you.” James Dillet Freeman

“Words are also seeds; when dropped into the invisible, spiritual substance, they grow and bring forth after their kind.” Charles Filmore

“Things may happen around you, and things may happen to you, but the only things that matter are the things that happen in you.” Eric Butterworth (minister of Unity Temple Detroit during the 50s when the beautiful temple was built)

“What you think upon grows. Whatever you allow to occupy your mind, you magnify in your life. Whether the subject of your thought is good or bad, the law works, and the condition grows. Any subject that you keep out of your mind tends to diminish in your life because what you do not use atrophies. The more you think of grievances, the more such trials you will continue to receive; the more you think of the good fortune you have had, the more good fortune will come to you”.  Emmet Fox

Change your brain, change your life” is heard quite a bit these days. Emmet Fox, one of the early pioneers of New Thought, said this decades ago.

You are not happy because you are well. You are well because you are happy. You are not depressed because trouble has come to you, but trouble has come to you because you are depressed.

You can change your thoughts and feelings, and then the outer things will come to correspond, and indeed, there is no other way of working.” Emmet Fox. Author of Golden Key

And some on Visualization

“Every man who accomplishes things sees first in his mind what he wishes to do. He puts away all doubt. It makes no difference how small or large the thing you want to do may be; if you have unlimited confidence in your ability to do it, you will do it.” Charles Filmore

Thankfulness, Attitude of Gratitude

“We increase whatever we praise. The whole creation responds to praise and is glad”. Charles Filmore

“We can not solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.” Albert Einstein

Affirmation from Unity’s Daily Word.

I trust the timing of divine order.

I find myself struggling to remain patient, hoping for a quick resolution to a problem or a wished-for result to unfold; I regain my patience, remembering divine order is at work. This awareness helps me take a broader perspective and trust divine timing.

I need not be passive and merely wait. I tend to my spiritual life, affirming the highest and best result is on its way, affirming my gratitude in all things, and tending to my self-care needs. As I focus my attention on that which I can control, I withdraw my focus on trying to force a result. In that space, wonderful, surprising things can happen.

I trust the process of divine order and believe the best outcomes are unfolding in the perfect way at the perfect time. Put things in order … agree with one another, live in peace.—2 Corinthians 13:11

Use affirmations to bring about change… meditation, prayer.

Change your words, change your life.

Your Grandmother was right. If you can’t say positive things, don’t say anythingh. Words have Power, and we are constantly building with them.

We want to build Good in our lives. We want Positive. At least smile.

Edgar Cayce said, “Thoughts are things.”

A favorite Unity song has the line, “Our thoughts are prayers and we are always praying. Our thoughts are prayers; listen to what you’re saying.”

“Words have power.” Isaac answered. “Words begin and end wars. They create and destroy families. They break hearts. They heal them. If you have the right words, there’s nothin’ on earth you can’t do.” Lori Handekand from Crave the Moon. (I am not recommending the book. YA vampire book)

“You must be aware of the words, thoughts, and beliefs that you are constantly feeding your subconscious mind. It does no good to spend 10 minutes on positive affirmations and then spend the rest of the day carelessly speaking negativity about yourself and putting yourself down. Ten minutes of positive affirmations will not cancel out an entire day of negative, self-defeating speech!”  Bohdl Sanders. The Art of Inner Peace, The Law of Attraction for Inner Peace

The 12 Powers

In “The Twelve Powers of Man,” written by Charles Fillmore, co-founder (with wife Myrtle Fillmore) of the Unity Movement, it states, “The subconscious realm in man has 12 great centers of action, with 12 presiding egos or identities. These identities, such as love, faith, wisdom, etc., are expressions of the One Power, the Christ within each of us. The 12 disciples symbolically represent each of these twelve pathways, these 12 Powers of the Christ.”

Affirmations Change Consciousness.

In times of change, I have FAITH in the unchanging goodness of God.

I rest and relax in Divine LOVE: I am soothed and made whole.

I JUDGE nothing in my life as a finality; all things lead to greater Good.

I am interested in life; I am ENTHUSIASTIC about life: I love life.

I am in the right place at the right time: Divine ORDER prevails!

My UNDERSTANDING knows everything in my life has a meaning for good.

I am the ever-renewing, ever-unfolding expression of Infinite LIFE.

My entire trust is in God’s POWER at work in my life: I am at peace.

I RENOUNCE fear. I do not fear the future, for my future is filled with God.

My IMAGINATION is divine territory: I see as God sees.

God’s WILL for me is only for Good. Let God’s WILL be done in all things.

STRONGER is He which is within me than he that is in the world

YOUR WORDS HAVE POWER…

 “How are you?”

“Ah – can’t complain,” or “No use complaining,” or “Not too bad.”

How does the brain respond to these dreary views?

Is it a “pain in the neck” to do the dishes? Is it “one big headache” to balance your checkbook? Are you “sick and tired” of the weather we are having?

I am convinced that [doctors] owe a large part of their income to the words we use. Remember, the brain is no subtle interpreter. It says, “This guy’s asking for a headache. OK. One headache coming up.”

Of course, whenever we say something gives us pain, pain does not immediately result. The body’s natural state is good health, and all its processes are geared toward health.

In time, though, with enough verbal pounding away at its defenses, it delivers up the very illnesses we order.”
