A Community Art Exhibit of Student Work

at the Boll Family YMCA

March 5th through March 30th

The elementary and middle school students of the Detroit Waldorf School are excited to have their artistic creations chosen for the upcoming community exhibit “The Art of Education: Student Work from Detroit Waldorf School,” which will be on display in the lobby gallery of the downtown Boll Family YMCA March 5th through 30th. This free exhibit features over 50 art pieces by DWS children in grades 1 through 8. The artwork represents a range of media typical of the Waldorf classroom, including charcoal, watercolor, pencil, colored pencil, and beeswax crayon. “Our students have been working for months to have their pieces selected for the exhibition,” Enrollment and Outreach Director Charis Calender-Suemnick said of the community outreach project. “We are thrilled that visitors and members of the Boll YMCA will be able to experience the remarkable talent we are cultivating within our school.”

An opening reception will take place on Thursday, March 7, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Boll Family YMCA lobby gallery, 1401 Broadway, Detroit, MI 48226. Detroit Waldorf staff, students, parents, alumni, and donors will gather to kick off the exhibit and share it with the Metro Detroit community. School representatives will be on hand to discuss the Waldorf education model, which integrates comprehensive, age-appropriate academics with rich artistic experiences and practical work to challenge the mind and fire the imagination.
