Free creative mental blocks with mindfulness

A big fuzzy uneasy blank. Mental mind-blocks are the inability in the moment to move forward, due to either subconscious repression of painful thoughts and feelings, or just plain fear of the outcome of your actions.

These blocks can also be the by-product of abuse, negative conditioning and self-defense mechanisms your mind has created to protect you from possible pain that you feel subconsciously, that you may encounter. Boy, they can be a major pain in the ‘you-know-where’!

Fortunately, for all creative souls, they are not insurmountable and there are methodologies that can be incorporated to get through them.

One way is the path of least resistance. This is the pathway that provides the least resistance to forward motion.
It’s the best choice to by-pass blocks. When you have a block, you are in resistance; there is part of you that is fighting the action you wish to take. As long as you keep fighting, you will not pass these blocks, all you will cause is gridlock!

You must let go. Only then will you be able to move forward.

The answer to creative resistance is mindfulness. Mindfulness is, “The intentional, accepting and non-judgmental focus of one’s attention on the emotions, thoughts and sensations occurring in the present moment,” as derived from Buddhist anapanasati. (Source: Wikipedia)

Creative ways to mindfulness

· Zen doodling — just put pen to paper and let go! Allow your pen to flow freely in the moment.
· Ask and expect an answer. Let go. Listen to meditation music (I personally love ‘Liquid Mind’) and focus on breathing. If thoughts pop up that are irrelevant, let them go. When a thought comes up and you feel a pull, follow it and see where it leads you.
