The Farmington Farmers Market will host its 3rd annual “Fit as a Fiddle” health awareness on Saturday, June 17, during the farmers market. Sponsored by Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, the fair promises to be lively, festive and fun with free screenings, a fun run, bike meet-up, and cooking demonstrations along with a complement of vendors offering holistic and naturopathic solutions to your personal health needs and interests. Susan Randall who represents Young Living Essential Oils is eager to return to downtown Farmington. “I participated last year and the attendance was beyond what I imagined. I think being at a farmers market, out in the open air with live music and cooking going on, really made for a family friendly atmosphere.”

There is always a buzz of activity at the farmers market, and this year’s health fair will see downtown Farmington on the go! A casual 5k “pump and run” will take place from the market through quaint streets and surrounding neighborhoods. Interested runners should meet up at the market at 9:30. Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills, will be offering free screenings all day along with all the information you need to start and maintain an exercise program! Anyone who chooses to participate in a screening or the “fun run” will be entered into the markets “Farm Shares & Flowers” giveaway drawing, which will see three lucky winners take home six weeks of fresh off-the-truck Michigan farm produce, along with a beautiful flower basket or cut flower arrangement. The farmers market is blessed with 15 local growers including all natural, no spray and 100% certified organic!

Make plans to come out and stroll the market. In addition to fruits, vegetables, flowering baskets, bedding plants and herbs, the market showcases fresh honey, homemade jams, baked goods and more, including trap netted Michigan lake fish. Artisans at the market feature garden accents, pottery, natural soaps and always a fresh cup of newly roasted coffee. The markets Little Sprouts Corner will be eager to share a craft or game for the young and restless!

At 11:00, Chef Greg Richards, from Northville’s WOK Asian Bistro, will command center stage, sharing and demonstrating his secrets of stir fry. Chef Greg is passionate about Asian cooking and is sure to keep you captivated, if not working right alongside him at the market!

Participating wellness vendors to discover and learn from are Healthy Traditions Network (promoting nutrient dense whole foods), Healthy and Wholesome Snack- all natural frozen fruit bars, Garden Outside the Box, The Spice Grrrl, Billy Joe’s Bee Bites, Michigan for Vaccine Choice and Chef Deborah Lieder, who nurtures ground up cooking for healing using whole foods.

“Fit as a Fiddle” runs from 9:30-1:30 in downtown Farmington. For more information on all the upcoming exciting events, visit: www.farmingtonfarmersmarket.com or follow the Farmington Farmers & Artisans Market on Facebook. See you at the Market!
