Are You Living Your Dreams?

Do you know what your purpose is? If so, is your life’s purpose being fulfilled? I believe we all have a purpose. We may not know what it is yet, but we do have a purpose. Are you following your true heart’s desire? If not, why not?

The late Dr. Wayne Dyer used to say, “Don’t die with the music still in you.” Dr. Robert Anthony, psychologist and hypnotherapist is much blunter about this. He asks the following question: “Suppose you went to see a doctor for a sharp pain. The doctor informs you that you have a very serious illness and only have 24 hours to live. Soon after, you go to a shaman who tells you he can extend your life by 10 years, but only on one condition. You must live your dreams. In other words, you must overcome all of your excuses for not being the person you wish to be. Faced with this extreme situation, most people would ardently pursue their dreams.” Anthony goes on to say that if you are not living your dreams, it’s as if you are already dead. You may be physically alive, but your soul is psychologically, emotionally and spiritually dead. That is how important he feels it is to live your dreams.

Assuming that you know what would really make you happy, if you are not pursuing it, what is impeding you? The key factor, according to many of the “new age gurus,” is that you must be willing to take the necessary steps to achieve what you want. Unfortunately, most people are not willing to do this. These “necessary steps” may include relocating, quitting a comfortable job, ending a relationship, etc. In other words, you have to get out of your comfort zone. This requires taking risks, and many of us are not willing to do this.

If you analyze why you are not willing to take the risks, when the result would be living the life you have always dreamed of, you have to wonder what is really interfering. I believe that it comes down to how one feels about him or herself. If you feel good about yourself and have reasonably high self-esteem, you will be much more likely to do what is required to reach your dreams. Unfortunately, many people do not have this level of self-esteem, which may well have to do with deep-seated beliefs about themselves.

Most people have received a lot of negative messages when they were growing up, such as not being good enough, not being smart enough, not being deserving, etc. The problem is that even though these messages are not accurate and probably never were, they still believe them. These messages, however, do hinder your ability to pursue your dreams. If you do not believe you will be successful, why would you try? To further complicate the issue, many of these deep-seated beliefs are on the subconscious level, so you are not even aware that you have them. Whether you are aware of them or not, they are still preventing you from having the life you deserve.

What, then, is a person to do? You must find out what your negative beliefs are, challenge them, and then replace them with much healthier and more rational beliefs. One excellent way to accomplish this is with the use of hypnosis. Hypnosis does work. Many doctors and dentists now endorse it, and it is much safer than you probably realize. If you are in a hypnotic state, you will never do anything that goes against your moral beliefs or values. With hypnosis, you are always in control.
