OBESITY and CRAVINGS

One of the biggest reasons for obesity is nutritional deficiencies. That’s right. We put on weight from eating more than our body requires; however, that comes about because of cravings due to deficiencies. Our bodies are made to stay in balance, but if we are lacking vital nutrients to maintain our health, our body will set off mechanisms to eat, despite the weight gain. One of the best things you can do for yourself when it comes to cravings is to eat very nutrient-dense foods and take abundant high-quality whole food supplements. It isn’t just the volume of food that fills us up, it is the nutritional content.

It is well-known that pregnant women get food cravings. With what I just told you, can you guess why? Because the nutritional demands are greater with a growing child inside of mom. Prenatal vitamins help, but still might not fulfill all the nutritional demands of mom and baby for several reasons: 1) These vary in quality, 2) They commonly have synthetic vitamins that sometimes the body doesn’t even recognize as food, 3) They often contain nutrient isolates, which is a fraction of a natural nutrient.

One common example is ascorbic acid, which isn’t Vitamin C; it is only a small component of the C complex. The body needs the entire complex of a nutrient to be most beneficial. And, as if this weren’t enough, there are even additional reasons that we don’t have room to go into here.

Generally, sugar cravings are very common. One of the main reasons for this is a deficiency in protein and/or minerals. So, the next time you crave sugar, have some minerals and protein…what do you have to lose? Oh, that’s right….weight! If you have yeast or fungal overgrowth, you will tend to crave sugar as well. And, if your blood glucose levels go low (hypoglycemia), you may also crave sugar, but eating sugar is the worst thing for that due to the rebound effect (sugar stresses the pancreas and will tend to make your blood sugar go low again).

There is much more to know about obesity and losing weight, and the new year is a great time to start the process. I invite you to participate in my new, weekly TIME TO TRANSFORM weight-loss support group every Monday night at 7 pm starting January 8, 2018. It is free to anyone, but please RSVP. You don’t need to be a patient. The emphasis will be on support and learning, not deprivation. Each weekly meeting will be informative and oriented to your personal goals. The meetings will be geared to the participants’ interests and needs. Come join me and we will transform together into our ideal selves!
