O Lord, we thank you for Mother Earth, our home
For wide green oceans warmed by the Sun
Salamanders dancing in the fiery rays.
We thank you for salt seas, and running waters
For never-ending waterfalls, lakes and streams
Where undines twirl amidst the waves;
And never-resting, eager breeze of Zephyr
Blown by incandescent sylphs,
Spirits of the ever-moving winds.
We thank you for lofty trees and springing grass
For dusty earth, rocks and mountains
And the gnomes who tend their bounty.
We thank you for our senses, unlocking
Melodies of bird song and humming bees
Splendor of summer fields and taste of autumn− fruits.
We thank you for the crunch of pristine snow
Yet soon longing for the breath of spring
When green shoots spring like hope eternal in our hearts.
Oh Lord, deliver us from a numbing dullness
Of our hearts, when we miss
A common bush, aflame with glory.
Or scented blooms sniffed for a second
And swallowed by anxious, half-digested hours
Of gloomy memories.
Grant that our hearts be ever open to Thy bounty
That our souls may sing
At forgotten melodies of Earth’s freedom.
We yearn to know Thee, half forgotten
Yet always with us, coiled, ready, waiting
For our imploring hearts.
