Ripples in the Ocean

“You can either see yourself as a wave in the ocean, or you can see yourself as the ocean.” Oprah Winfrey

It only takes one person to change the course of history; it only takes one person to change the future of a community; it only takes one person to change the minds of many; it only takes one person to change the outcome of a disaster. No matter how rough the terrains, how challenging the competition or who the competition may be — no matter how challenging the circumstances, if you believe in yourself and have faith that it can be done (no matter what it may be), you can achieve your most desired way of life and the lives you touch. It all depends on the depths of your principle of truth and integrity.

I will share a story that Sarah Ban Breathnach refers to in “Something More,” the story of the Queen of Sheba. As the story goes:

Solomon had 300 wives and 700 concubines. However, there was only one woman at whose feet he laid, the Queen of Sheba. Moreover, she was neither one nor the other, for she was the King’s match. So fittingly, he gave her everything she asked of him and much, much, more. She, in turn, gave herself to him. Moreover, their rapture knew no bounds and their love for each other never betrayed them.

[King Solomon, whom the ancients considered the wisest person in the world, and one person, the Queen of Sheba, who knew better].

Before Helen of Troy, before Cleopatra, before Catherine the Great, there was Sheba – history’s first recorded woman with a past. These women did not let their past limit their reach — limits that others may have placed on them. They used their histories to strengthen and gain knowledge to reach deeper inwardly, to be that one person to ascend and follow their own north star.

In the September 2018 issue of Body Mind Spirit Guide, my article was on, Giving Freely. The power of one, one person can change the minds and hearts of others. You, one person, can move mountains if only your commitment flows deep. There are millions of examples. Think of a person or persons who by their actions and deeds have changed entire counties, transformed whole communities, and improved an individual’s livelihood. Perhaps it was changing the laws of a nation — laws of a voting right for all to be equal — women’s rights — civil rights — the way we communicate — social media, internet — cutting the lawn of an elderly neighbor, or volunteering at a favorite charity.

One person with a commitment to enhance your life and the lives of fellow humans; it does not matter if it’s a big act, or very small – know it’s all impactful – universal balance. You need not hold university degrees or have approval from someone else. All you need is conviction and faith that will carry you through. Be that one someone to make a positive change in our society, and it will change your life.

If your gut is telling you to go for it – then what are you waiting for? If you don’t have any idea of how you can contribute to making an impact, here is an idea; at the end of your day, for the next 30 days or so, write in a journal at least one idea of what you could do. No matter how outlandish it is for you, write it down. Be open-minded to new and broader ideas. At the end of the 30 plus days, go over each entry. When you come across an idea that feels plausible even if there may be some bearers, work through them and get started.

It’s your choice, as Oprah Winfrey noted, “You can either see yourself as a wave in the ocean or, you can see yourself as the ocean.” Whatever you choose, choose it and begin your ripple in the ocean.
