The Root of Anxiety

There is so much turmoil and so much uncertainty in the world. It can leave a person feeling like their life is out of control, and they’re being tossed about like a leaf in the wind. While many don’t realize it, when we feel like life is out of control, this is the birthplace of anxiety. It’s that helpless feeling that makes us retreat from the events of our lives and cringe at the mere thought of moving forward into the unknown aspect of the future.

Just like anything, when you come to understand the root of a problem, it becomes easier to affect change. So, instead of asking yourself, “What’s causing my anxious feelings?” try asking, “What is it that I’m feeling unable to control?”. It’s in our divine nature to want to heal wounded people and wounded situations. We are, after all, love at the core of our being. But sometimes, we can begin to feel responsible for healing those things that are out of our control. When we do, our inability to affect change brings about an unsettling feeling of uncertainty, fear, and hopelessness, which can lead to a state of anxiety. The news media fuels this uncomfortable state by bombarding us with upsetting situations that are happening around the globe. Our innate desire to heal cannot be satisfied, and we are left in an anxious state.

The key to releasing those unwanted emotions is clearly understanding what’s yours to control and what isn’t. When you concern yourself with things that you have no control over, you’re surrendering yourself to something with an unknown and uncertain outcome. However, when you let go of trying to control things that you clearly cannot change and shift your attention to those things that you CAN change, you begin to feel empowered once again.

Worrying about things that you can’t control will not change the situation, but it will change YOU.

When you live in an elevated state of consciousness, you can evaluate each event and begin to understand where your true power lies. You can become an agent for change in the world, but only if you purposely channel your energy into those things that are within your control – and avoid draining yourself with anxious feelings over those things that you cannot.

So, how does one know where that boundary is – between those things you can and those things that you cannot control? There are three things that each of us has the power to control: our thoughts, our words, and our actions. Of these three, the most powerful is the energy of our thoughts. We are each a beacon of light in the world. That light of love becomes brighter and more capable of affecting positive change when we hold in mind the reality that we choose to see. The power of intention is how each of us can bring about healing in our personal lives and the world at large. But, to do this, you must be able to release the responsibility to change things that are outside of your control and focus on that greater vision.

A wonderful quote from Tony Robbins spells it out clearly – “Where focus goes, energy flows. And where energy flows, whatever you’re focusing on grows.” This applies to thoughts about the state of the world as well as the self-talk we each experience each day.

Where are your thoughts sending energy? It’s like watering a plant or fueling a car. If you imagine doom and gloom, you are feeding that image in the direction of manifestation with your thoughts. Adversely, if you hold images of peace, resolution, and understanding, you are sending energy into manifesting those outcomes around you.

Stop feeling bad about things that you have no power to change. Use the energy of your thoughts to create positive change around you. The power of intention is the key to change. Take control of your thoughts and take control of your life.
