Our bodies are miraculous. We do not appreciate their wonder and inherent qualities for growth, renewal, and healing. We each begin as one sperm and one egg and develop into about .37 trillion cells. Groups of cells have different functions. When we injure ourselves, our body first sends cells called macrophages to remove debris and irritants from the area. It then sends fibroblasts, cells that make collagen. Finally, it sends in chrondrocytes, the cells that make cartilage.
Every cell, tissue, gland, muscle, and organ of our body knows exactly what to do when to do it, and how to do it as long as the communication lines are clear between those body parts and the brain; yet with all this, we all are guilty of treating our bodies with less than what they deserve.
Some ways we can appreciate our bodies:
(1) Posture: Many of us spend hours hunched over phones and computers. Good posture facilitates energy flow through the body. Think proud, walk proud, and keep your body in alignment.
(2) Hydration. According to some estimates, dehydration is a problem for up to 75% of adults. Drinking water and eating hydrating vegetables and fruits (celery, cucumber, and zucchini, for example) are important. You can also use micromovements such as foot tapping and moving your head in figure-eight motions. These squeeze moisture through the fascia, the tissue that lies beneath the skin and around organs and bones.
(3) Nutrition. Our cells need nutrients to help them function. This is not ultra-processed food or sugar.
(4) Sleep. Our brains need to recover and clean house after a day’s work.
(5) Oxygen. Cells need oxygen to survive. Deep breathing for short periods several times a day is helpful.
(6) Movement. the more we move the happier our bodies are.
(7) Talk. Tell your body how thankful you are and how you love and respect it.
Our bodies work hard for us. Let’s take care of them. Ed Trainor
