Have you ever read self-help books? If so, did they help you make any long-lasting changes in your life? If you have read some of these books, you were probably inspired after reading them, but more than likely, they did not lead to any permanent changes in your life. The reason for this is that your conscious or creative mind wanted to make changes but the programming in your subconscious mind was not affected. You cannot override these powerful subconscious beliefs by merely reading a few self-help books.
When you were growing up, usually until about age seven, your mind was like an open book and you accepted pretty much everything you heard or saw. In fact, you were basically in a state of hypnosis. Your brainwaves were the same as if you were in a hypnotic trance. The messages you received up until age seven went right into your subconscious mind. The conscious mind does not really operate until this point. As you get older, your conscious mind comes into play. However, the messages you received the first seven years do not get replaced. They are lodged in your subconscious mind and actually dictate most of your behavior. The part of this process that is so insidious is that you are not even aware of the fact that these messages are now affecting every aspect of your life.
It is believed that 95% or more of the time that you are awake, your subconscious mind is actually running the show. If you are thinking about the past or thinking about the future, you are not living in the present moment, and you are allowing your subconscious programming to dictate what occurs in your life. This is the reason “mindfulness” can be so helpful. Living in the present moment prevents your subconscious mind from dictating your thoughts and behavior.
Unfortunately, it is estimated that 70% of the programming you received is negative and not life-enhancing. It is not helping you live the kind of life you truly want to be living. Rather, it is causing you to sabotage yourself, to get into unhealthy relationships, to settle for lesser careers than you are capable of achieving, and is causing a great deal of distress and unhappiness.
It is quite possible that when you were growing up you received messages such as, “You can’t do anything right,” or “You are not smart enough,” or “You’re not lovable,” or “You’re incompetent and screw everything up,” etc. You grew to believe you were not adequate nor good enough in many ways. Once you have these messages in your subconscious mind, you then live as if they are true and do, indeed, screw things up, sabotage careers and relationships, and many other important areas of your life. This is so unfortunate because the messages you are living by are not accurate. You can be doing so much better. These subconscious beliefs are dictating how well you live your life.
So what is a person to do? You can do nothing and continue to sabotage your life and lead a less than satisfactory life, or you can become aware of the situation and make some positive changes. You do not have to let the negative programming continue to dictate the way you lead your life. You can change these old programs to much healthier ones which will then allow you to have the kind of life you truly desire and deserve.
One excellent way to make these changes is with the use of hypnosis. With hypnosis, one can find out where these programs are coming from, realize they are not true, and then replace them with much healthier messages. There is no need to let your old unhealthy programs continue to negatively impact your life.
